SCCM Direct Deploy is an easy-to-use interface for quickly distributing software applications that are packaged in SCCM via a web interface.
Direct Deploy offers a number of benefits over the traditional software distribution interfaces in SCCM, allowing support teams to better manage the desktop environment.
Features
SharePoint Integration - By integrating with MOSS 2007 or SharePoint Services, Direct Deploy can plug in to an existing IT department portal and reduce the need to work in multiple tools. As a web-based solution, it means that support personnel do not need the Configuration Manager console to facilitate software distributions.
Immediate Availability of Software - By leveraging direct collection membership rules in SCCM, there are no discovery cycles or collection update intervals that have to occur before SCCM offers the software to the client.
Remote Client Policy Refresh Initiation - Direct Deploy will automatically trigger the “Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle” on SCCM clients targeted for software distribution, providing for near-immediate software delivery.
Easy Interface for Software Installation / Removal - Through administrative association of an application with an installation and removal collection, Direct Deploy provides support staff with an easy “check or uncheck” method for installing and removing software from one or more machines.
Group of Software into Suites - Software can be grouped into suites to allow distribution as a bundle.
Multiple Methods for Quickly Locating Target Systems - Simple queries can be performed to locate target systems by computer name, last logged in user, most common console user, serial number (or Dell service tag), user’s Email address, user’s phone number, etc.
Scoping Model for Delegation in Decentralized Support Environments - Based on Active Directory groups, support teams can be “scoped” to only see systems in one or more specific Organizational Unit(s). They will only be able to deploy software to systems that are within their realm of management.
Simple Security Model for Application Types (e.g. Licensed applications or software in testing) - Through default and customizable application types, software can be shown or filtered based on the support person’s Active Directory group. For example, delineation may be placed between who can push unlicensed software vs. applications that require a license.
