The Challenge

The client continued to grow their business and their technology infrastructure while continuing to use a dated line of business application. Their Risk Line of Business application was built on an Access platform and had evolved over 10 years. Continuing to expand the application was challenging, given its architecture and the nature of patches that had characterized its development for a decade.

The Solution

Current App Assessment:  iVision worked with the client to assess the current application and its usage. We talked with users, documented the most important features and business processes, and studied the existing design and architecture.

Next Generation Architecture:  The client wanted to move all of their Access applications to the .NET platform. iVision helped with that by designing a modular and extensible framework. We created a way to plug in additional application snap-ins so that new modules could be created quickly and added to the new application.

Iterative Development and Testing:  After the foundation was created, iVision and the client worked together to create the new application. We started on the most critical features first and involved the users early. User Acceptance Testing and Parallel Testing worked together to ensure that the users were confident in the new application and framework.

The Value

The client now has a modern, extensible platform for new line of business applications. The existing application has been retired and the user community has fully embraced the new application. New applications are being created by the client and iVision and will be implemented as snap-ins in the new applications, thus providing both a consistent user experience and a more manageable environment for the IT team.
